Belgian Bakery Chain Le Pain Quotidien Returns to India with Plans for 100 Outlets by 2035
Le Pain Quotidien, the renowned Belgian bakery and restaurant chain, is making a grand re-entry into the Indian market. Through a strategic master franchise agreement with Bake & Brew, supported by the diversified Nalanda Group, the brand has laid out an ambitious plan to open 100 outlets across the country by 2035.
The journey begins with an initial investment of Rs 35 crore, focusing on the establishment of two flagship outlets in Mumbai. These locations will set the stage for further expansion into major metropolitan areas and key travel retail locations, including airports. This expansion is not only a testament to the growing demand for premium dining experiences in India but also a significant contributor to the local economy, with the venture expected to generate approximately 1,500 jobs.
Brijesh Agrawal, Director of Bake & Brew, expressed the company’s dedication to bringing a world-class dining experience to Indian consumers. “We are committed to delivering a premium dining experience that meets the evolving tastes of Indian consumers while upholding the brand’s global standards of sustainability and quality,” Agrawal said.
Annick Van Overstraeten, CEO of Le Pain Quotidien, emphasized the chain’s focus on creating spaces that foster community and well-being. “This marks a new chapter where we aim to create spaces that foster a sense of community, offering an authentic dining experience that celebrates the joy of simple, nourishing food. Partnering with Bake & Brew and Brijesh Agrawal ensures we meet the local market’s expectations and sustainability goals,” said Overstraeten.
Le Pain Quotidien’s return to India comes with a promise to maintain the integrity of its global menu while adapting to local tastes. Approximately 80 per cent of the menu will reflect the brand’s global offerings, including its signature dishes and organic sourdough bread, while 20 per cent will be tailored to cater to Indian preferences. This adaptation includes the introduction of millet-based dishes, salads, tartines, and more, reflecting the brand’s commitment to health, wellness, and sustainability.
As Le Pain Quotidien re-establishes itself in India, it aims to bring an authentic European dining experience to a broader audience, offering a unique blend of global and local flavors. The brand’s focus on quality, community, and sustainability is set to resonate with the modern Indian consumer, making it a significant player in the country’s premium dining sector.
With this ambitious expansion, Le Pain Quotidien is poised to become a household name in India, offering a dining experience that is both authentic and enriching. As the brand continues to grow, it will undoubtedly contribute to the evolving landscape of India’s culinary scene.
