Minister Jaiveer Singh Announces Collaboration with Major Companies to Enhance Highway Restaurants and Attract Tourists
The Uttar Pradesh government is set to enhance the road travel experience with a major initiative targeting restaurants along the national and state highways. Under the guidance of Jaiveer Singh, the Minister of Tourism and Culture, a significant transformation is underway aimed at elevating the quality and hygiene of these dining establishments.
In an effort to improve service standards and attract more tourists, the state tourism department plans to revamp 1000 restaurants, commonly known as dhabas, along the highways. These restaurants will receive a 25–30 percent subsidy for upgrading their facilities, ensuring they meet world-class standards. This initiative is designed to address common concerns about food hygiene and cleanliness that often affect road travel plans.
Minister Jaiveer Singh highlighted the importance of this initiative by stating, “Uttar Pradesh is rapidly advancing in the tourism sector. In 2023 alone, the state welcomed over 48 crore tourists. With major destinations like Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, and Buddhist sites drawing millions daily, it is crucial to provide top-notch facilities for travelers. Safe food, clean drinking water, and comfortable rest areas are fundamental requirements.”
The project will not only involve physical upgrades but also foster collaborations with prominent companies to enhance the quality of services. These partnerships will provide restaurants with high-quality products and ensure that the needs of tourists are comprehensively met. Additionally, the Manyawar Kashi Ram Institute of Tourism Management in Lucknow will conduct training sessions to improve the hospitality skills of restaurant staff, further ensuring a high standard of service.
Restaurants participating in this program will be required to register with the Department of Tourism and Culture. The financial support provided, under the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Policy 2022, will cover a significant portion of the costs associated with upgrading services. This move is expected to significantly improve the dining experience for travelers and contribute to the overall growth of tourism in Uttar Pradesh.
