
QSR Brands Thrive on Quick Commerce Wave with Customized Offerings
India’s quick commerce market is experiencing a remarkable surge, with popular QSR (quick service restaurant) brands like Wow Momo, Chaayos, Blue Tokai, Chai Point, and Boba Bhai riding the wave by launching customized products on platforms such as Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart. These innovative offerings are designed to meet the growing demand for instant delivery, transforming quick commerce into a vital sales channel for QSR chains. With the market projected to skyrocket to $75 billion by 2032, according to a Bernstein report, these brands are capitalizing on the trend by introducing tailored stock-keeping units (SKUs) like frozen momos, bottled coffee, tea bags, and cup noodles to cater to evolving consumer preferences.
Wow Momo, a Tiger Global-backed chain, exemplifies this shift by expanding its presence on quick commerce platforms. Founder Sagar Daryani revealed that the brand generates Rs 5 crore monthly from frozen momo sales, with 52% attributed to quick commerce. The company, currently offering nine SKUs, expects its annual sales to double from Rs 36-38 crore to Rs 75 crore by next year. Wow Momo has also rolled out Wow Biryani on Zepto and introduced Wow China cup noodles, with plans to launch Wow Kulfi to tap into the booming ice-cream demand this summer. This strategic diversification highlights how QSR brands are leveraging quick commerce for rapid growth.
Similarly, Chaayos, another Tiger Global-supported brand, is witnessing high double-digit growth on quick commerce channels. Cofounder Nitin Saluja noted that the company currently offers five to six SKUs, including tea bags, boxes, and festive gift packs, with plans to further expand its footprint on 10-minute delivery platforms. Blue Tokai, a New Delhi-based cafe chain, has embraced the trend by selling ready-to-drink bottled coffee alongside ground coffee and beans, aligning with the global playbook of branded product sales. Meanwhile, Boba Bhai is targeting 10% of its total sales from bubble tea and ice-cream offerings on quick commerce, showcasing the channel’s rising significance.
The quick commerce boom isn’t limited to QSR brands. Large FMCG players like Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Nestle, and Marico are also intensifying efforts to capitalize on this fast-growing platform, where e-commerce contributes 6-10% to their sales, with quick commerce accounting for 30-50% of online revenue. Platforms like Blinkit (over 8,000 SKUs), Zepto (over 6,000 SKUs), and Swiggy Instamart (over 5,000 SKUs) are expanding their catalogs to meet diverse consumer needs, from food and beverages to home goods and electronics. Early adopters like NIC and Grameen Kulfi, initially cloud kitchen brands on Zomato and Swiggy, have successfully transitioned to quick commerce, setting a precedent for others.
As India’s quick commerce market grows from $10 billion to a projected $75 billion by 2032, QSR brands are adapting to sluggish growth in traditional food delivery and dining-out segments. Customized offerings, rapid delivery, and a focus on best-sellers are driving their success. With summer ice-cream sales expected to hit Rs 180-200 crore monthly on these platforms, as reported by ET, the synergy between QSR innovation and quick commerce is poised to reshape India’s consumer landscape, offering convenience and variety at unprecedented speeds.
